Sending postcards that give back.
The Destination Preservation Project
Share The Aloha is part of the Destination Preservation Project™ – an exciting new initiative created by the passionate team of designers, developers, and do-gooders at PixlBank.
This unique concept was created in response to a heavily debated and rapidly-growing issue known as “overtourism.”
Overtourism, a word that didn’t make headlines until 2017, is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an excessive number of visitors heading to famous locations, damaging the environment and having a detrimental impact on residents’ lives.
The fact is, more people are traveling today than at any other time in history. This combined with social media's ability to laser focus attention on specific destinations has led to hordes of travelers descending on places that are now struggling to find ways to cope with their own popularity.
The Destination Preservation Project will be a series of social good campaigns designed to leverage and monetize the millions of photos already being taken each year by visitors (and residents) in select locations – like Hawaii.
Visitors and residents will have fun turning their photos into custom postcards that they can share to support local organizations doing amazing work to preserve, protect, and restore the places they love. The funds raised by these postcards will be channeled directly to local organizations doing amazing work to preserve the local culture, support the local community, and protect and restore the natural beauty and delicate ecosystems of that location.
To help motivate people to share their postcards and incentivize others to Boost those postcards with donations, the campaign uses a built-in gamification model that converts actions (and donations) into entries to win prizes that are provided by campaign sponsors and brand partners.
‘Share The Aloha’ will bring together local nonprofits with local businesses, residents, and visitors in a community effort to educate, motivate, and activate people to invest their social currency in the preservation, protection, and restoration of the Maui we love.
In addition to ‘Share The Aloha,’ PixlBank is currently developing campaigns for other select destinations, including Lake Tahoe, Puerto Rico, and several of America’s National Parks.
